We’ve ignored the warning signs. Now churches are collapsing.
For years, churches assumed they were healthy because attendance was steady, budgets were growing, and ministries were busy. But beneath the surface, cracks were forming—unchecked platforms, toxic cultures, hidden burnout, and weak accountability systems.
Those cracks are now widening. Leaders are falling. Trust is eroding. And churches are left trying to make sense of the damage while wondering how to prevent the next collapse.
When the Church Falls doesn’t settle for shock or shame. It reveals the patterns behind leadership failures and gives pastors, elders, and church teams practical tools to lead differently—before crisis comes.
This isn’t just another commentary on what’s wrong with the church. It’s a roadmap for building something healthier, stronger, and more sustainable.
Practical. Honest. Hopeful. And desperately needed.

About the author...
Todd Rhoades has spent the last two decades at the intersection of church leadership and staffing. As the co-founder of Chemistry Staffing, he’s helped hundreds of churches across the country navigate the complexities of hiring well, building healthy teams, and staying aligned in seasons of transition and growth. A former pastor himself, Todd brings both strategic insight and pastoral empathy to conversations about church health and leadership.
He’s been in the search trenches—reviewing thousands of résumés, coaching church boards through impossible decisions, and listening to weary pastors who love the Church but are quietly burning out. That front-row seat to the staffing crisis sparked this book.
Todd lives in Bryan, Ohio, with his wife Dawn. They have four grown children and a deep love for helping churches and leaders thrive over the long haul.
